Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas extended and redesignated Yemen for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) from Sept. 4, 2024, through March 3, 2026. Nationals of Yemen and individuals with no nationality who last habitually resided in Yemen may submit an initial registration application under the redesignation of Yemen for TPS and apply for an Employment Authorization Document (EAD). Current beneficiaries who want to maintain their status must re-register and may apply for new EADs.

Given the time frames for processing TPS re-registration and EAD renewal applications, USCIS has automatically extended through Sept. 3, 2025, the validity of EADs with a Card Expires date of Sept. 3, 2024, or March 3, 2023, issued under the TPS designation for Yemen.

Creating an E-Verify Case

After a new employee has completed Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification, create a case in E-Verify for this employee. Enter the EAD document number you entered on Form I-9, as well as the automatically extended date of Sept. 3, 2025. You must reverify these employees on Form I-9 before they start work on Sept. 4, 2025.

Find more details about this extension and redesignation on the TPS designation for Yemen page and instructions for completing Form I-9 on the I-9 Central TPS page.
