DHS Secretary Implements Employment Authorization, Automatically Extends Certain EADs for Individuals Covered by Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) for Liberia

Based on the June 28, 2024, presidential memo, Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas is implementing employment authorization through June 30, 2026, for Liberians (and individuals having no nationality who last habitually resided in Liberia) who were already covered under Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) for Liberia under the president’s 2022 memorandum. DHS has also automatically extended existing DED Liberia-related EADs for these individuals through June 30, 2026, and they may also apply for a new EAD valid through June 30, 2026. Employees may present an unexpired DED EAD with a Category Code of A11, including one that has been automatically extended, to their employer to show that they are authorized to work.  

Completing Form I-9

When completing or updating Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification, if your employee’s EAD has a Card Expires date of March 30, 2020, Jan. 10, 2021, June 30, 2022, June 30, 2024, or June 30, 2026, and Category Code of A11, it is valid through June 30, 2026. After June 30, 2026, you must reverify this employee’s work authorization on Form I-9.
