What is E-Verify+?
E-Verify+ is a service of E-Verify that streamlines employment eligibility verification by combining the Form I-9 and E-Verify into one seamless digital process.
When employers – and the employees they hire - complete the Federally required Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification, they are playing an important role in verifying employees’ identity and legal authorization to work in the U.S.
Through E-Verify, an employee’s Form I-9 information is compared with records available to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Social Security Administration, giving added assurance that the Form I-9 information is true and accurate.
What are the benefits of using E-Verify+?
E-Verify+ gives you all the great benefits of E-Verify:
- Free and easy to use with 24-hour secure access; no special software needed.
- Peace of mind that your employees are legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Instant results – most case results returned in 3 to 5 seconds.
- Helps combat identity fraud via photo and Social Security number matching capabilities.
The “plus” provides additional benefits for employers and employees alike!

Not always. A key feature of E-Verify+ allows employees to save their information in their E-Verify+ account to be used for future E-Verify+ participating employers. Once they receive their unique reference code from a new employer, the employee can simply update their information if necessary and complete the E-Verify+ process with their new employer.
Yes, a live video interview must take place to visually see the new employee and to corroborate their documents. Employers are encouraged to use E-Verify+ for in-person hiring as well. Instead of a live video conference, employers may inspect employees’ documents in-person for applicable situations.
If the employee receives a mismatch result, the system will notify the employee of the result directly and provide detailed instructions on the next steps. Once the case result is final (employee’s mismatch is resolved as Employment Authorized or as a Final Nonconfirmation), the system will notify both the employer and employee of the case result.
After an employer makes a job offer and the employee accepts that offer, the employer will initiate a E-Verify+ case in E-Verify. This prompts the employee to share their personal information and documentation electronically with their employer using their secure E-Verify+ account. The employer will review the information provided, examine the employee’s Form I-9 documents, sign and retain the Form I-9.
After an employee accepts a job offer, they will receive a unique link to the E-Verify+ case created by their employer. The employee will then log in or create an E-Verify+ account and enter their biographic information, citizenship or immigration status, and acceptable document(s). Once the employee submits that information, E-Verify will confirm the employee’s identity and employment eligibility and notify the employer. The employer will finish the verification by examining the documents and retaining the Form I-9.
Employers will have access to E-Verify+ in their already established E-Verify account.
Employees who are newly hired by E-Verify+ participating employers will have access when their employer creates an E-Verify+ case for them. E-Verify+ will email employees directly with guidance to set up their own secure E-Verify+ account to complete and submit Form I-9 and documentation.

No, E-Verify employers are allowed to decide which process they will use (the traditional E-Verify process or E-Verify+).
No, E-Verify+ will not replace E-Verify. Instead, E-Verify+ will work together with E-Verify by delivering an integrated Form I-9 and E-Verify Process.
Employers who participate in E-Verify+ can use both processes. Employers may determine which is best on a case-by-case basis, but may not direct or use one process over another for a discriminatory purpose, such as by directing certain employees to use E-Verify+ based on citizenship, immigration status or national origin. Employers select whether to create an E-Verify+ case to complete their Form I-9 and employment verification together, or to create a traditional E-Verify case after Form I-9 sections 1 and 2 are completed.
