E-Verify Updates Employee’s Status Attestation Selection in Case Creation

Release Date:
News Item Date:

On Oct. 11, E-Verify updated options in the “Citizenship Status” section of the case creation process to mirror language on the new version of Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification, that was published on Aug. 1, 2023.

Specifically, the option “An Alien authorized to work” was changed to “A noncitizen authorized to work.”

Employers may use the 2019 version of the Form I-9 through Oct. 31, 2023. However, beginning Nov.1, only the new Form I-9 dated “08/01/23” may be used.

For E-Verify users still using the 2019 version of the Form I-9, if an employee attests in Section 1 to be “An alien authorized to work,” then the employer should select “A noncitizen authorized to work” when creating a case in E-Verify
