TPS Extended and Redesignated for Syria

Release Date:
News Item Date:

The Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has extended and redesignated the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) designation for Syria for 18 months from April 1, 2015 through Sept. 30, 2016. The extension allows current TPS beneficiaries of Syria to re-register for TPS. DHS has also automatically extended the validity of Employment Authorization Documents (EAD) issued under the TPS designation of Syria for six months, through Sept. 30, 2015. The redesignation allows individuals who currently do not have TPS to submit an initial registration application and apply for an EAD, in accordance with the Federal Register notice.

Further details on the extension and redesignation of Syria for TPS may be found in the Federal Register notice. Additional information on TPS for Syria is available at www.uscis.gov/tps. Employers verifying or reverifying the employment eligibility of employees who are TPS beneficiaries from Syria should refer to the Temporary Protected Status page on I-9 Central.
