DED for Certain Hong Kong Residents Extended; EADs Extended through Feb. 5, 2027

On Jan. 15, 2025, President Biden issued a memorandum directing the secretary of homeland security to extend Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) for certain Hong Kong residents, and to provide for continued work authorization through Feb. 5, 2027. Accordingly, USCIS will automatically extend through Feb.

Final Rule Permanently Increases Automatic Extension of Employment Authorization and/or EADs for Certain Individuals

On Dec. 13, 2024, the Department of Homeland Security published a final rule (89 FR 101208) that permanently increases the automatic extension period of employment authorization and/or Employment Authorization Document (Form I-766 or EAD) validity from up to 180 days to up to 540 days from the expiration date on the face of the EAD.

Each User Needs a Unique Email Address to Ensure Continued Access to E-Verify

E-Verify staff are contacting browser users by phone and email to let them know their E-Verify account could be locked if they don’t take steps to prepare for the transition to Login.gov.

In late Spring 2025, E-Verify users will use their email address instead of their E-Verify username to sign in using Login.gov. Each browser user will create their own profile on Login.gov with their unique email address. The email address will function as their “username” for Login.gov.
