Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas extended and redesignated Somalia for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) from Sept. 18, 2024, through March 17, 2026. Nationals of Somalia and individuals with no nationality who last habitually resided in Somalia may submit an initial registration application under the redesignation of Somalia for TPS and apply for an Employment Authorization Document (EAD).
USCIS is issuing Form I-797, Notice of Action, to certain Temporary Protected Status (TPS) beneficiaries who are eligible to re-register for TPS or have a pending application to renew their Form I-766, Employment Authorization Document (EAD). This notice further extends the validity of their EAD through March 9, 2025.
Employees may show their Form I-797, along with their TPS-based EAD (EAD with an A12 or C19 code), to any U.S. employer as proof of continued employment authorization through March 9, 2025.
