6.2.1 Unlock User ID

User IDs are sometimes deactivated or locked: 

  • To comply with federal security guidelines, USCIS must deactivate any user ID that has not been accessed within the past 270 days. A deactivated user ID will not affect the status of your E-Verify account.
  • When a user forgets their password or if a user attempts to log in with an incorrect password three consecutive times, the user is locked out of E-Verify.

E-Verify users can request a password reset message to be sent to the email address associated with their user ID. The password reset link will only be available for 30 minutes. If the user does not create a new password within 30 minutes, they will need to repeat the process to reset their password. If you are unsuccessful at resetting your password, contact your program administrator.

If you forget your user ID, you may retrieve it by using the Forgot User ID link and providing your email address when prompted. However, if you have more than one user ID associated with your email address and phone number, you must contact your program administrator for assistance. If a program administrator is not available, contact the E-Verify Contact Center.
